Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Yippee!

:-( I hope you get well soon. Crutches suck (and the accidents that lead to them suck all the more).

I would love to be able to dance to music whilst doing the housework but I can't actually even walk that well (stuck on crutches due to an accident) and at the moment the doctors don't even want me to do the seated exercises I have

Congrats! Keep up the good work! Remember, there will be days you don't feel like being active. DRAG yourself up, put on the songs that always always always make you feel better. Sway a bit, and do your activities. Exercise releases lots of wonderful feel good endorphines.

I registered on the home scales again this morning - this means I am 22 stone aka 308 pounds or 139.7 kg - still twice as much as I should be but heading back in the right direction

Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Intro hello...

In the future, you need to see it as reason to be MORE motivated. People need to realize that this is for our HEALTH. :-( Yes, people can be healthy to a degree at most any size, but those who eat a proper diet, exercise properly, and maintain a decent body weight tend to have optimal health. Arg... Then you have the "meant wells" who think they are encouraging us by judging our bodies and demeaning us as people, which can actually cause a person to fall off the wagon.

An interesting point, what you said about people feeling threatened by
change.
My husband likes me big and cuddly and did point out some sagging flesh
under my chin when Id lost some weight! So that made me think and become
less motivated.

Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Intro hello...

I recently picked up Maca powder, and my doctor had suggested a couple of supplements to try out. (He did warn me to watch articles on pubmed though in case any new research finds them to actually NOT work, but so far research seems to be promising.) He recommended chromium, maca powder, and chasteberry. I'm on a limited income, so I first purchased the chromium and maca powder, because the maca powder sounds REALLY promising. I wanted to get the chasteberry next (but it'll have to wait until we get our finances sorted)..

Hi there hikikomorhime and welcome to our group!

Have you thought about taking Vitex for your PCOS? I find it to be very helpful for me and it lessens some of my symptoms. Vitex (chasteberry) helps regulate women's hormones throughout their cycle. Of course, with any herbal remedy, it takes a while for the effects to kick in and one must take it consistently. I much prefer an herbal remedy than having to get on birth control or Metformin to help me regulate.

I'm a newbie to the group, but definitely not new to vegetarian eating. I'm hoping to find some inspiration and support from people as I try to lose weight to help control the symptoms of my PCOS. I've given up on trying to get people IRL to be supportive. I'm now taking the advice of my old therapist who once told me that sometimes the people we know don't like the idea of us changing, so it's best to have an online support group, or to go to a support group of strangers. Anywhere we don't have to deal with people who feel threatened by the idea of our changing.

Everyone here seems friendly and supportive of each other, so I can't wait to start my adventures with you. ^_^

Re: [Vegetarianslimming] urk :-(

Some things that I have found helpful for SAD are:

omega 3 supplements

sunshine & walking (I realize you're out of commission right now, just
including it for completeness)

gluten free diet

humidifier at home

absolutely not sleeping in - go to bed/get up the same time every day

aromatherapy scents shown in studies to change brainwaves (smell a few of
these at the store and see what you like; no point in buying something you
can't stand. I prefer the citrus scents)

- jasmine

- basil

- rosemary

- sage

- geranium

- grapefruit

- lemon

- rose

- spruce

- orange

- chamomile

- bergamot

- geranium

- melissa

- clary

Hope one/some of these can help you!

Pam
