Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Up-coming plans

Thanks for responding Jules

Cheese is my Christmas treat (I can't eat nuts so I allow myself a couple of wedges of really nice cheese for after meals)

I can't exercise (Marie has seen the way I walk with crutches and it is not pretty!)

Other than the cheese there is no bad food in the house (well Dr Dragon some steak flavoured crisps/chips in but ACK!)

Soup is going to be my lunches (and possibly breakfast) for the next few weeks whilst it is still cold (hmm need to get a load of mushrooms, I'm okay on lentils and dried beans!)

Good luck to everyone on the group and of course happy 2010!

[Vegetarianslimming] Up-coming plans

Well there is only 29 hours (and a smidge!) to 2010 and so I have been updating my blog (pics of Toby and stitching plans) and I am about to update my diet plans one and my recipe one.

I know that I need to get myself back on track in the New Year, I am seeing the dietician on the 5th January but I need to fill a food diary out from Friday (hmm must finish the cheese by then!)

I hope to be a little more "with it" from the 1st!

[Vegetarianslimming] Nothing important

Except that I hope this can help cheer up our Dragon. (Hope you get cleaning help pretty soon, and this link will therefore be appropriate -- in some ways!)

Once a week I give up trying to do my work as an editor and writer, when wife and I visit daughter's home in Manchester to babysit little Oliver, now 10 months old. Of course he has a couple of sleeps in the day - I'm quite envious though the notion of me crying because I'm tired and being pushed around in a pram to get off to sleep is not
appealing. On the other hand, the days in the week that he attends nursery they use another method of getting him to slumber. I can tell you I wouldn't at all mind being laid on my back and having nubile nursery nurses pat my tummy and coo...

Anyhoo, of all the many toys that kids can't do without these days, guess which, besides books, are is favourite? Naw, you won't guess so watch this video of him instead.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lk-4GhZIaw

Anyone want to hire him? - Dragon? He is a veggie baby too.

Merry Christmas and seasonal salutations one and all

Geoff

DRAGON - Re: [Vegetarianslimming] meltdown revisited

Hi Dragon,

I am really sorry to hear that things are getting you down at the moment.  I have my fingers crossed for you that you can get your appointment with the dietitian soon as that will be a real boost too you.  Good luck on being able to find a cleaner too.  It would be a relief to know that there was someone able to give you a hand with the tasks you can't manage yourself.

Big hugs from Marie

Broke down again in the nurses office this morning, so they are going
to try and speed up my dieticians appointment (in the hope of helping
me feel better about myself and helping the ankle and pelvis), when I
got back I phoned a cleaner that had advertised in our local magazine -
she

a) refuses to do less that 2 hours a week! (we have a tiny Victorian worker's cottage!) and

b) doesn't have any slots free (duh why advertise then!)

[Vegetarianslimming] meltdown revisited

Broke down again in the nurses office this morning, so they are going
to try and speed up my dieticians appointment (in the hope of helping
me feel better about myself and helping the ankle and pelvis), when I
got back I phoned a cleaner that had advertised in our local magazine -
she

a) refuses to do less that 2 hours a week! (we have a tiny Victorian worker's cottage!) and

b) doesn't have any slots free (duh why advertise then!)

There is a possibility that the lady who does the kitchen and bar (not
at the same time!) at the local pub may know someone so will ask on
Wednesday (if I am in luck we can arrange for her to start in the New
Year).

In the meantime I still keep bursting into tears (the Furry Dragon (tm)
keeps licking them off my face and if a Cairn Terrier can look
concerned then he does ),
the medical profession doesn't think I am clinically depressed BUT I
need help before I am. I haven't done any stitching in weeks and
haven't even got the energy to do my cards (and I normally send them
out at the beginning of Advent), oh Goddess I need help and company! I
love Dr Dragon but he is out all day and I don't speak to anyone for
days.

Sorry this is a pity party but until I can get myself sorted I can't get food and cleaning sorted as it is just too much to cope with. I try menu planning but even though I want to boost my interest in food I keep falling back on the same things time after time.

I buy stuff from the Chinese stores (which can guarantee nut safe!!), shop at supermarkets further away (Tesco is our closest), make a lot from scratch!

Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Re: Tesco MINUS

Last Summer I started my own veg patch. It's done really well for
yummy salad stuff. I have planted some garlic. Today I tried to buy
some unusual purple garlic with no luck. Does anyone know what it's
called and where I can buy it to plant in UK?

I suppose I should be grateful Tesco sells soya yoghurts. I should be a good boy and use raw ingredients and make my own tofu. Someone give me a 36-hour-day please.

Hi Dragon,

That is great work, especially as you have been unable to get in much exercise with that leg.  I am thrilled for you and can share the excitement of your fantastic loss.  Here's hoping for an equally good result on the scales next month.

Hugs from Marie

Okay I have had another dose of flu, coupled with the ulcerated leg BUT I weighed into today at the surgery and in November I have lost 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg) still a long way to go but getting there.

[Vegetarianslimming] Tesco MINUS

Tescos is taking over the retail landscape of the UK and is influential in deciding what we buy for our homes and how we eat. Particularly large Tesco supermarkets are called Tesco Extra.

I enjoy a country bike ride to my nearest Tesco Extra on the border between Wales and Cheshire. I used to be able to buy many vegan foods there but sadly if they make slightly less profit than other foods they vanish off the shelves. The fact that vegans find it more difficult than non-veggies to find food doesn't factor into Tesco's rationale. They are big enough to be socially responsible but are that bothered.

Today I discover that my favourite vegan stir fry ingredients - tofu, Cauldron make of marinated Tofu along with falafels are no longer stocked. Plenty of Quorn but they are not vegan.

Shame on you, Tesco.

More Tesco Minus than Tesco Extra.

On my bike the extra 10 miles for Sainsbury!
