RE: [VegetarianSlimming] returning member

Definitely!
Actually that's how I became veggie in the first place. I was eating a bacon sandwich at age 13 (I'd already given up all other meat apart from bacon and the occasional bit of chicken) that I had spent half an hour preparing (because I used to spend ages trimming off all the little fatty bits etc first, the rind, the edges of the round bit, anything else I didn't like the look of (ie most of it) which meant it took the best part of a whole pack of bacon to make one sandwich, very wasteful) and it dawned on me that I didn't even really like it that much. And my brain said, why the hell are you bothering to eat it then! I put it down and never ate meat again.

Hmm seeing as I could always take or leave bacon I might give this a miss!

You can still cook it with a grill or a frying pan, just watch it like a hawk and don't go wandering off or it'll go from raw to black in 0.2 seconds :-p

That's useful to know Cindy (I don't have a microwave though!), hmm might do the "fry up" with just a couple of poached eggs on rocket and watercress with cherry toms and the balsamic vinegar... (wanders off pondering)

RE: [VegetarianSlimming] returning member

It depends on whether you want it to taste like actual bacon (it doesn't). It's more like the fake bacon flavour you get with bacon crisps. This is a good thing for me as I hate actual bacon taste but quite like the fake kind!
I like the taste but find there is a knack to cooking it.
It cooks very quickly and burns easily. If you overcook it, it becomes fragile and tends to shatter! I have been known to skip frying or grilling and just nuke it in the microwave for a minute or so. I don't think it says to do this on the packet but it tasted alright and didn't kill me so I guess it's OK!!

does any one know what the Quorn Fake B*con is like? I have a really nice "fry up" to try (Hairy Bikers diet one for those of us in the UK!) and I know Quorn is safe for me with my nut allergy.
