Congrats on the weight loss!

I'm sorry to hear that you have trouble walking. Do you mind if I ask
why? Are there other forms of exercise that work better for you?

Cheers,

Trish

[Vegetarianslimming] Weighed in on Saturday

My weigh in at the weekend was reasonably good - I had been out for 2 meals during the week (one of them was Friday night), and I stayed the same on Saturday - this means that over the course of June I have lost 6 pounds in total and I am very happy with this!

I did a lot more walking than I am used to on Saturday (Dr Dragon and I had friends to stay over the weekend) and I was really suffering for this yesterday but I forced myself to walk through the pain and stiffness and even though I was popping the pain killers it seems to have done the trick as I can actually walk today!

[Vegetarianslimming] I'm Still Around

Just wanted to drop in and say that I am still around. I've just been super duper busy.

Lost a total of 58lbs since my knee surgery.

Was part of the organizing team for the Toronto Humane Society protest on June 20th. Super day with an awesome turnout, even though the weather was foul. Had around 250 people show up. You can learn more about what we are trying to accomplish at:
http://helpths.wordpress.com/

Took part in a visit to my friend, Sherry's, Pig Sanctuary. LAVA out of Guelph decided to donate their proceeds from the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale to Ruby Ranch Pig Sanctuary. We had an awesome day!
Then, attended the bakesale in Guelph yesterday and one of the pigs, Stormy, was the guest of honour! I loved some people's response to seeing a pig in downtown Guelph. People absolutely LOVED him, and he was such a hit with everyone. Hopefully he touched people into giving up pork and maybe all meat. The sale raised $682, and it was a super fun day again. :D

Now I am putting the finishing touches on my resume for a job posting for an Animal Rights Advocate Part Time position that I would really like.  Hopefully I will hear from them.

And, last but not least, I am quitting smoking - again.  I did it a couple of years ago and managed not to smoke for over 9 months but started up again after a moderate tough spot.  If anyone has any helpful tips, I am all ears.  Used the patch the first time and am going to use it again.

Hope everyone is doing well, and enjoying the summer.  :D

Sam

June 19, 2009

Dear friend and clients:

I'm delighted to tell you that my business is expanding! As you know, I have
been spreading the word about holistic nutrition and healthy living for
years. As someone who's been supportive of my work, I wanted to share some
exciting changes in my business.
I've recently re-launched my website, www.NutritionforEmpoweredWomen.com,
where you can learn about my new approach: helping professional women excel
through good food that gives them energy, strength and focus.

My mission is to teach women about the power of healthy food and the
astounding ways it can positively transform everyday life. Many of my
clients are experiencing nutrition and lifestyle challenges that take a toll
on their personal and professional success. These women have lots on their
plate and are stuck in eating ruts like:

. Excessive use of coffee, soda and sugary treats just to get through
the day
. Roller coaster energy swings that make them crave more sugar and
coffee
. Daily anxiety, stress and lethargy (even though they're pretty good
at hiding it)
. Fear that they will never lose the weight
. Aches and pains that are affecting their ability fulfill their goals

You can read what my clients have said about working with me and the
transformation they have witnessed in their lives here:
http://www.nutritionforempoweredwomen.com/testimonials

My clients are so thrilled to learn that there is a better way to fuel their
lives. I believe that women have great capacity for transforming the world.
With the right nourishment, women can tap into a reservoir of passion and
creative power.

I have watched scores of women move beyond health barriers they thought were
permanent and into a productive and profitable life flow. My clients marvel
at the pronounced changes that they experience when they celebrate, care for
and heal their bodies.

My client base is growing, mostly through referrals and speaking
engagements. If you know someone who would benefit from my work, I would be
happy to talk with them to see if I can be of help. Please feel free to call
with questions at (917) 345-2304 or email me directly at
Alex@NutritionforEmpoweredWomen.com.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Warmly,

Alex Jamieson

hi,

I am new and also fairly new to being a veggie. I am the only one in my family but my husband eats very little meat.

I do it as I love animals a lot. I live surrounded by sheep ,lambs and cattle so why would I want to eat them.

I am 59(ouch) but in 2007 I started being ill with loads of vertigoes and the dr sent me for blood tests and I was found to have type 2 diabetes. My father had it in his 60's. I have lost weight but am finding it hard to maintain, thats why I have joined.

I live in NW of England, in a village..well on the side of a hill actually.

I have 3 grown up family and 2 grandchildren 7 and 5. We have 2 rescued dogs and 2 elderly cats and another cat has been here tonight. We have fed it and it has an outbuilding to sleep in. My husband does a lot for the local shelter so he will try and get it a new home if no-one claims it. My youngest Molly doesn't like cats(they told us she had lived with 4 cats but I am not sure) Also my cousin left her budgie and now she don't want it back. So there you are...now I look forward to reading your posts. Sandra  from a sunny England...at the mo!

Re: [Vegetarianslimming] good food for hot times

Oh, I love my wok too! I use it for all styles and sorts of food. I just love the deep, wideness of it. :-)

I found WW to be very vegetarian friendly as well when I was doing it Trish.

And a belated welcome to our group to you!! Nice to have you on board. Feel free to share any low point meals you make that the group might enjoy too!

One of my favorite cooking tools is my wok. Asian foods are just a

start. They're great for everything from braising collards to tossing

together a pasta dish. Everything cooks quickly, making it perfect for

summer.

My diet plan, Weight Watchers is fine with pasta. You just have to

control your portions. Another great thing about WW is they've

recognized that all calories are not equal, and if you eat whole grain

pasta it requires fewer "points" than white flour stuff.

One cup of cooked whole wheat pasta is really a pretty good amount. So,

I take whatever veggies I've got, and tomatoes are wonderful for this. I

wipe a small amount of oil on the wok and saute the veggies. For summer,

a good mix might be scallions, garlic, tomatoes, parsley and peppers.

Saute them, then add a cup of cooked pasta. I usually add some kind of

protein, anything from tempeh to a meat analog. You can make a large

plate of food that's very satisfying for a minimum of calories.

I just top with salt and freshly ground pepper, but I'm vegan. The

vegetarians might want to top with some grated parmesan.

This is one of those dishes that transcends borders. Use cabbage and soy

sauce, and you can call it Lo Mein. Use macaroni, eat it cold, and you

can call it pasta salad. Lots of tomatoes and garlic, and it's pasta

verano. You can make any number of dishes with vegetables, noodles and a

wok.

I use a traditional rolled steel wok, and it's one of the best pots ever.

Cheers,

Trish

Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Refreshing meals when it's hot

Hi Dragon,
Yep, salads are always a good standby to make during the summer heat! Stir fry's work too.
Thanks for chiming in!

I tend to go for a huge bowl of salad, crisp lettuce, cherry tomatoes, scallions/spring onions, bell pepper, possibly some celery and topped with a sliced boiled egg - if I can be bothered to boil some!

Evening meals tend to be quick veggie stir fry with either rice or noodles
