[VegetarianSlimming] New Owners/Moderators

Hey group,

I have made Piers and Debbie the new group "owners" and made myself a regular member for now. I will stick around for a little bit for any needed guidance.

[VegetarianSlimming] New Moderator

Hi Group,

Just a quick note to let you know that member Debbie has expressed interest in helping with the group so I have made her moderator. I have explained how the group is currently set up for new members and their posts to be approved, but that can always change to make it easier on whoever will be moderating. If you're interested in that role, too, please let me know and I will change your status.

Thanks!
Cindi

Re: [VegetarianSlimming] Hi Group

Hi Cindi, Elaine here. I'm so sorry I've been a lurker for a couple of yrs, just soaking up the wonderful thoughts, ideas and reciepes on this site. I'm not fully ready to give up my ribeye yet, but soon. Just want to thank you for your hard work and protective stance in the face of the dreadful bloggers. This has been a fun and good website for me and I'm sorry to see it go. Again, thank you.

Hi group,
So, only three people have responded to my email about the status of the group. Two of them suggested keeping the group open and unmoderated. I don't really think that's a good idea since it might get over run with spam and non vegetarian stuff, but if no one wants to take over as moderator(s), I suppose that can be done to keep the group active/open.
If you want to help moderate the group, send an email and I'll be happy to add you.
Cindi

[VegetarianSlimming] Hi and That Blogger

Hi Cindy and All,
Thanks for opening the door for me to come in with you all again,
admittedly under a pseudonym because of the now very public nature of
all posts on this group. I'll be here as long as Vegetarian Slimming is
around.

Having just re-arrived on this group, I too am shocked, saddened and
annoyed by the Wretched Blogger's dampening of our collective spirits.
While I see that the blog has only two (count 'em, 2) members, one being
one of my cyber friends and fellow vegetarians, ultimately reliable to
be honorable in all things (he will no doubt be a member of Vegetarian
Slimming - loves all things vegetarian), the other unknown to me, anyone
can look and read - if they take the trouble to find it. I guess it
would come up in any search for 'Slim' or 'Veg' - among umpteen others.
I wonder if anyone has joined this group after seeing the group name
and/or address.
OK, those useless comments made, moving on.
Cindy, I've said it privately and now I'll say it publicly (yes, even to
you, Stevo, and all your readers): All members owe you a huge vote of
thanks, tumultuous applause and a standing ovation for all you've done
for this group. So there! It would be nice if it could continue, but
since it appears it cannot, then we will have to accept that. I know
that I have myself, in the past, had to make similar hard decisions
(hint: even on this group) and it's not an easy choice or a comfortable
feeling. Hugs, hon, and many many thanks.
Love,"River"

[VegetarianSlimming] Important Message About Group: Please Read

Hi all,

I feel the need to step down as owner/moderator of this group because I do not seem to have the time nor drive to help make it a thriving community like it once was. I am considering just deleting the group because of the bot issue we're having with every post being copied verbatim on an outside blog.

However, I want to give you all the opportunity to keep the group running should you choose to do so. Or perhaps start a new one. If anyone wants to step up as moderator/owner, please email me offlist. If you want the opportunity to start another group with existing members, again, email me offlist and I will hook you up with each other. I suggest not responding within the group to discuss a new group to help avoid the bot issue.

Please take a moment to look through the files and recipes and pull anything you might like to have from the group archives. I will wait two weeks to let all that happen and also to see who contacts me about continuing on or wanting to get set up in a new group with existing members.

I have felt the need to bow out for a while but now with the blog issue and with the group being so inactive, both before and after the blog was discovered, I feel now is the time to take action.

Thanks for taking the time to read,
Cindi

[VegetarianSlimming] File - Thought For Food

(Vegetarian Health and Slimming Group)

THOUGHT FOR FOOD!

1. The Thought:

Do Vegetarians and Vegans ever need to lose weight? Of course we do (through a variety of circumstances, which usually boils down to taking in more fuel than we are able to burn off). Sad but true, fat happens. Something we can do on this list is exchange wonderful recipes in keeping with our needs. (The exercise is up to you - but we're with you in spirit!) As a quick rule of thumb, it's best to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, the more colours the better, whole grains rather than refined grains, and less processed food and sugars.

2. The Food:

SLIMMING: Of course, *all* recipes sent here should be vegetarian, tried-and-true *and* suitable for slimming (weight loss), which is to say not loaded with high-calorie ingredients such as too much sugar, dried fruit, sweetened preserves, etc. That's just obvious. Also, however, please note that this is a low-fat group and we, therefore, draw attention to some foods that should be either avoided or used only in small amounts in the recipes posted:

* full-fat dairy, including cheese, cream, yoghurt, butter, etc.
* full-fat soy products
* coconut cream and milk
* most nuts
* margarine and cooking oils
* peanut butter and the like
* mayonnaise and fatty salad dressings
* olives
* avocados

There are probably more (send them in if you think of them!) to be added, but this gives the general idea. Many dairy and soy products, nut butters and coconut milks, etc., can frequently be found in low-fat form and these are more suitable. Other ingredients (dairy cheese, for eg., and nuts, fatty fruits, etc.) are great for garnish, of course, and/or a little added flavour, but not as a major ingredient.

(A good tip: Always read the nutritional data even on packages of prepared foods labelled Vegetarian or Vegan, including faux 'meats'.)

Hope this helps a bit ;-) Don't let it scare you - we'll help happily if you have a recipe you'd like to use but need to 'slim' it down!

[VegetarianSlimming] File - VEGETARIAN SLIMMING GUIDELINES

NEW VEGETARIAN SLIMMING GUIDELINES
(As of May 2006, with minor amendments September 2008)

1. Posts should be of general interest about
vegetarian health and slimming (weight loss),
including recipes (see below). This is not the place,
however, for medical advice.

2. We welcome only *Tried-and-True* recipes
(kitchen-tested by the member) which are low-fat as
well as low in sugar and calories, suitable for
slimming/weight loss. Recipes must be vegetarian (or
vegan) and edited to exclude all references to meat
and dead-animal products. Eggs, dairy and honey are
permitted. Please indicate the source of any recipes
which you did not originate yourself.
Please post the recipes to the list in the usual manner,
adding an indication "Recipe" in the subject line.
A moderator will then place the recipes in
the appropriate folder in the Files on our web page.

3. Please observe the following:
No anti-vegetarian (or anti-vegan) posts or material;
no political and/or religious posts or material; no
commercial posts or material which benefit, directly
or indirectly, the member or the member's family in any
way. (Links to members' own *non*-commercial web pages,
blogs and/or groups may be included in the Members'
folders at the top of the Links page and/or be
included discreetly [url only] below a member's
signature in a posted message.)

4. The usual warning about spam, flames, x-rated
material, etc., apply, as do the rules of Netiquette.

5. Any queries about the above or problems arising
should be directed to the moderators at the following
address: vegetarianslimming-owner@yahoogroups.com

Many thanks.
