Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Fwd: New Member Survey: Welcome Louise!!

Welcome Louise --

I¹m the only vegan in my house ‹ I went vegan nearly 3 years ago, and it
was a sudden change ‹ I wasn¹t even vegetarian before that! Just read The
China Study and went cold turkey, so to speak. It seemed hard at first ‹
but it will soon be easy as you get used to it and learn new recipes. I love
eating this way now ‹ I no longer want any of the old foods I used to eat.
People at my work tend to order lunch in all the time, and it used to be
hard to eat my healthy meals, but now I look at the things they¹re eating
and think YUCK! No way am I putting that in my body.

For eating out, I find the easiest choices are Subway (the veggie patty in
Australia is vegan can¹t speak for other countries) or Asian places.
Mexican places are good too, so long as they don¹t use lard in their beans.
Bean burritos loaded full of lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, etc. Even guacamole,
but ask ‹ some places here put sour cream in theirs.

My biggest tip would be to scour the recipe books as there are some very
good ones out there ‹ and even online, my favorite site being
http://blog.fatfreevegan.com

Best of luck!

Anna

[Vegetarianslimming] Fwd: New Member Survey: Welcome Louise!!

Welcome to our group Louise, we're happy to have you!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group.

I'm a 55 year old wife and mother of 2.

A
couple years ago, I was told I was a text-book example of metabolic
syndrome.  You probably know what I'm talking about--borderline high
bp, high triglycerides, low HDL, showing signs of insulin resistance,
and I weigh too much.  I don't want to be on medicine so I've been
trying to follow the Eat-to-Live program to get back on the path to
good health--including a healthy weight. It's been very hard to be
vegan (or nearly so) with no support at home and to add to the
difficulty, with my job being so hectic and traveling a fair bit, I eat
out a lot more than I should.

I hope to pick up some
encouragement and some tips on how to cook and pack good low fat vegan
meals that don't take too much time and energy. I hope that I can offer
some good words from what I've learned to date as well.

One of my favorite blogs is Fat Free Vegan Kitchen.  I'll bet you're all familiar with SusanV's blog and recipes.

Anyway, I'm delighted to be part of this group.

ANNA - Re: [Vegetarianslimming] Had a good week ...

Hi Anna,

Thank you for inspiring us with your success story.  Congratulations on your achievements.  It goes to show what determination and dedication can achieve.  I am especially impressed by your snacks at the pinball meet.  Well done for anticipating the problem foods and taking along your own delicious alternatives.

Cheers from Marie

[Vegetarianslimming] Had a good week ...

I was a bit depressed that I'd been on a plateaue through July and August,
and then slowly began to regain 10 pounds, much of it during the 2 week
vacation that ended last Saturday. Frustrating, to say the least. But last
week I renewed my efforts and it paid off with a 5.73 pound loss in one
week. Gotta be happy with that. I'm hopeful the downward trend will
continue! :)

I have soaked muesli for breakfast, a big salad and large bowl of veggie
soup for lunch every day, and then a different home made dinner, maybe from
McDougall's cookbook or one of my many favorites from the Fat Free Vegan
recipe blog, such as these delicious samosa wraps:

http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2009/06/es-samosa-wraps.html

She's got a killer lasagna on that site, too. Anyway, I've been keeping in
the 1600 calorie range and walking an hour nearly every day (bit of rain
this week) and that's it.

We went to a pinball meet last night where they served pizza and heaps of
snacks. I brought my own fresh salad veggies, a peach and some blueberries
instead. They were delicious.

Hope you're all doing well with your efforts.

DRAGON - Re: [Vegetarianslimming] not around

Hi Dragon,

I'm so sorry to know you are in such pain.  Here's hoping that the medication starts to give you some relief very soon or that you can find something which does.

Big hugs from Marie
